I have the windjammer and side boxes on my 1980 Suzuki GS1000G. My bike has a sissy bar, with a luggage rack on it. how hard would it be to take off the sissy bar and and luggage rack and replace it with a trunk box?

would I need anything special to make the hardware adapt to my bike, or are they pretty much universal?

I wonder if anyone on here happens to have one thats in good shape and wants to sell theirs. lol ebay has some that look pretty bad.

It appears that you already have the trunk rack. The piece that you are missing is the mounting bracket. This, along with the U-bolts and rubber bumpers is what holds the trunk onto the trunk rack.

is it possible to get the painted panels off, to repaint them? I think I found one in really good shape, but its 200 for the box, the hardware, and a lid for the glove box

And, is there a way to get all the keys to match each other, if I buy this one, it comes with a matching key for trunk and glove box lid, but is there a way to match it to the saddle bags?

A definite maybe. Vetter used a lot of different locks with totally incompatible keys. If all the locks use the same style of key (ie one key will fit in all the locks) then chances are good. If that is the case and you have keys to the saddlebags, I'd look at rekeying the trunk and cover to match them (2 locks vs 4.)

any suggestions on how to get the panels off? also any suggestions on what to do with this dark spot between the tail lights? looks like they had a sticker or something there and peeled it off.

The panels are held on by keepers inside the trunk, gently pry them off a little at a time and, as roncar said, take care not to break the posts. I would rather ruin the keeper getting it off as you can buy something similar at the hardware store.

As far as the spot goes.... Whatever you try, you may try inside the trunk first as to see how it effects the plastic. Maybe a plastic friendly Goo Gone, or lighter fluid?

A bigger sticker?:p

Usually when the surrounding area has weathered, but under a sticker has not, you'll never be able to totally hide it's previous existence. Previous suggestions on insuring the sticker adhesive is gone, followed with a through cleaning of the whole back end (or the whole trunk) will give you the best results. May still show some though.

I wonder, has anyone ever wet sanded the black plastic and painted it, or I wonder if back to black would blend the unweathered plastic with the weathered

When I have used back to black on the side boxes it only seems to work for a short time then needs to be applied again to maintain the colour.
