Ok, I said I had to stop buying but that didn't last long, going to have a look at this tomorrow evening, its got one mounting holes damaged but may still be usable, asking price is about $36 in your money.

Well if you were looking for it, that chrome trim around the bottom of the windshield is probably worth the asking price. Not a Vetter product, AFAIK, and I don't see them often. Even without it, probably worth it in parts.

I have cut way back on looking, too dangerous financially!;)

I paid (I think) $45 for a windscreen just so I could get the chrome trim piece. They are hard to find. That reminds me, I need to add ebay to my new tablet.

Mine now for $36 including GL1100 mounting frame and lowers and the wiring harness from the fairing to bike :D

WJ SS with Vetter mounting frame with damage to top right mounting, it will not be used but I may try to do a repair anyway while its off the bike. This frame is off a GL1100

WJ SS with a Rickman frame for tryout and drilling, the bottom mounting holes line up exactly which is a big plus, top ones will need drilling to suit the Rickman mounting pattern. I will probably only be able to get 4 and not 6 fixing points as the lip on the SS does not come far enough across to drill the middle ones. This frame is off a GS750, makes the Vetter one above look a bit "agriculturally functional" in design and is made all round of thicker material.

Rickman Polaris black single headlight fairing shell only
Rickman Polaris black twin headlight fairing complete
Pantera brown fairing shell only
Vetter SS black fairing complete
Vetter tail trunk complete
Vetter tail trunk shell only
Vetter side boxes complete
Vetter GL1100 lowers
Rickman Polaris GL1000 lowers x 2
Rickman Polaris BMW R80 lowers
Pantera GL1000 lowers
Rickman / Vetter Z1000st mounting frame
Rickman Polaris GS750 mounting frame
Vetter GL1100 mounting frame
Pantera GL1000 mounting frame
Vetter side box frames
Rickman rack

Not sure if joining was a sound financial investment plan!

My first look at putting the SS on the Z1000ST, its only held on by the back 2 mounting bolts at the moment, I need to drill the 2 front ones to line up with the Rickman Polaris mount its sitting on, back hole locations are the same for both, the lowers look like a pretty close fit as well considering they are off a Honda GL.
So just front fairing mounting holes to be drilled, wiring interconnection and check electrics, sort out interference with brake lever and inside of fairing to do but nothing that cannot be sorted I hope.
Noticed there is no facility for a side light in the main headlight shell so I need to research if amber running lights legal in the UK or if not I may need to fit a UK headlight and do some additional wiring.

Looking sharp. Thats interesting about the lights. I would be interested in what you find out.

Side lights on motorcycles in the UK are normally a single small bulb inside the headlight unit which means if your main headlight bulb blows you do no lose all your frontal light, they also light up the numberplate and rear red lights, on some older bikes such as mine there is a key position when you put the steering lock on that switches on the sidelights when parked. They are probably similar to your running lights in the US.

Found this so hope all will be OK at next MOT

Amber lamps located within the indicator lamp must not adversely affect the operation of the indicator i.e. the indicator must go on and off to function not dim and bright. 1. Operate the direction indicators on each side in turn and check the colour, flash rate and it is not obscured. Check that the illumination of the indicators are not affected by the operation of any other lamp.

Front position lamps and headlampsA motor bicycle (with or without a side car) fitted with a headlamp need not have a front position lamp (but must have one on the side car, if a side car is fitted).

Wiring loom is now sorted I decided to leave the amber running lights disconnected for the time being, reason for this is as because in the UK amber lights are not a normal fitment except for turn signals I think if a car driver only saw one running light from the position they were in on a side road they might assume it was a turn signal that was not operating correctly and pull out.
Just need to adjust the brake lever interference with the inside of the fairing on full lock and drill the two front mounting holes and then ready for road test.

What are you using for front turn signals?

As the inbuilt turn signals have dual filament bulbs I have just disconnected the feed to the second filament of the bulbs that are used for running lights, the other filament is still connected for turn signal indication.

That, or changing the socket to a single filament bulb, is what I was going to suggest.

Hondas, and I imagine many others, disconnect the running-light filament for each side when that side's turn signal is activated. This improves the contrast, which is probably the intent of that rule.

Yes that would give much better contrast, I think this would still give a problem in the UK as road users associate any amber lights as turn signals so still could get confused on approach to a junction with the running light on if they could only see one side of the bike. Automatic disconnection of the running light is probably a feature for the US market as the use of day running lights only happened here in the UK a few years back and was not a requirement in 1980 when my ST was manufactured so does not have this facility.

I thought of that but would have to find a replacement socket or rewire the existing one as the existing dual contacts would not work correctly for a single filament dual contact bulb as the ground would need to be on one of the pins insted of the casing with the dual filament type I believe.
