I have the cycle sound, unsure how to open it to change the radio or speakers. dont want to break anything. this piece is in GREAT SHAPE, AN I'M glad to know it is the correct one not vetter sound. looking for some information on what would be the best way to mount it correct. I have know how and tools. Is there some kind of pad that go's under the radio for vibration, is there a link with pics or something to go on.? will post pictures when assembled then will when painted. found all of it on E-bay glad to know I now have all but a cpl peace's. Need rubber mounts between trunk and rack. and the pig tail from the trunk to the tail light male and female. Ok thanks again.. Another Vetter Fan...

Hi Paul,

Disassembly: Remove speaker grills, then unplug and remove the speakers. Remove all screws holding the unit together (I think there are 6 black screws). Remove the radio knobs, then the nuts from the shafts. There is no glue holding the top to the bottom or shouldn't be unless somebody sealed it after the fact. There are two pieces that clamshell together, go ahead and separate. Now you can pull the radio out.

Inside: There can be a Laminar Antenna, depends on the model. Also, there are two 1/2 thick pieces of foam, one on top of the radio glued to the plastic, and one below. You should also see two foam blocks behind the speakers. Thats about all there is to it. I have seem some units have a ceramic power block on the inside back of the unit.

Radio: You can put in any type of shaft style radio, some you may need a thinner piece of foam on the bottom, depending on the position of the shafts on the radio. Some folks on here cut the unit and put in a single din more modern radio. Personally I would keep it stock if possible. I don't like to cut them up.

Pyle Shaft Style Radio Unit - Never used one, not great reviews, but you get the gist.
These are great speakers for the Cycle Sound Polk Audio DB401

If you have any other questions please ask. I am a Cycle Sound and old radio nut.

I am going to move these posts to their own thread in the Cycle Sound forum.

FYI: You need to use the Polk Audio Speaker covers not the stock CycleSound or VetterSound covers if you buy them. ;) I painted mine black.

Pre-painted poor view of those polk speaker covers. I'm sure I have better somewhere, or run to basement to take a dusty photo...

To get the stock speaker covers, Cycle Sound or Vetter Sound, to fit I went to the hardware store and picked up little round spacers to extend them so the aftermarket speakers with the tweeters would fit.

I've never used anything but the two brackets. One of these day (real soon) I might need to put those other two bolts in... I recently got the hood for the gauge cluster for my Wing and I think I might need that extra space.

I've never seen documentation on this variation, but it does not use the two brackets. Attaches to the upper bolts thru the case.

Thank you every body for all the information on this. I have a good condition cycle sound set up with the front radio nob slot still in tact. The radio is a kraco with an 8 track in it. AN IT WORKS .. the speakers are really small. Like speakers you would find in a clock radio. I'm going to look into a replacement radio with the tuning knobs in it. Anybody have any leads on this new radio with the old school function? Thanks again. she sure is going to be nice when its all done.

There were two different size speakers that came in the Cycle Sound units. The earlier ones had I believe 3" speakers and later had 4" speakers. 3" are a bit harder to find in marine grade. It sounds like you may have an earlier Cycle Sound unit.

For later Cycle Sound and Vetter Sound units I confirmed that you can use the Polk Audio DB401's. They work good, however as Bob said you can't use the stock grills.

For earlier Cycle Sound units you might try Poly-Planar 3" marine speakers. I have not tried these personally. The grill is also integrated into the speaker, so you can't use stock covers.

When buying speakers the only real obstacle is the magnet size. If you get one with a huge magnet it will hit the back of the unit. You also should get something marine quality so its water resistant.

Can anybody confirm a speaker that works with the early units?

The speakers that are in the older style are the size of radio clock speakers tyou would find by your bed waking you up in the morning. the trim ring looks to be 3 inch. I think I will be needing to build up a trans ring to make it work for 31/2 to 4''. I'm a stereo guy, not a biggie. Also landed the location on a 2 nob radio with a usb plug an a sim card slot built into it. Not going to cut this thing up in the front. But I willl need to make trans rings for the speaker issue. This thig has a 8 track in it an it still works . How cool is that.
