Are there any props out there to keep the trunk open or is there a good after market alternative?

It is just a strong spring with two loops on each end. The problem may be the mounting brackets. I think I may have a spring at home, but I won't know until next week when I get home.

Welcome to the forum!!!!!

Thanks for the welcome! I'd appreciate you looking. Let me know how much you'd need for one.

So as I'm an old duffer :) I'm envisioning a spring like on an old wooden screen door on a house. The one about waist level that a kid (me) would irritate my parents with.

Those spring can be temperamental too. I have a trunk that the spring is slightly bent and doesnt stay open so well. It just collapses. We need to make a little hydraulic arm for the Vetter trunks.

My old one did the same thing... it is because the spring is pre-formed from being bent for so many years. I just reversed how it was bent, and it worked fine.

I went to Fleet Farm and bought one of those door springy things and cut it in half and made a loop in the end I cut. $1.38 and I have an extra one. I'll post a photo tomorrow when it's light out. Worked perfect!

Great! I didn't think a door spring would be the same strength. Good to know info!

Redneck ingenuity at its best! And you can't beat under a buck a piece once you cut it in half. Lol

My local hardware store is the place I go to get those new springs. Usually they have just what I need.

Thanks. I emailed Vetter and Carol there said they had none so I searched here asked a couple questions and came up with a reasonable substitute :)
