Trike build with windjammer 4

An absolutely amazing project. A great mesh of so many different cycle parts. What made you choose the Windjammer as part of the project? From a design perspective you must have had some inspiration or influence from somewhere?

Ever since my first trike ive drawn designs that I liked. So it's totally original . I was never drawn to other fairings and being 69yo i recall the windjammer well. One came up for sale, it had been on a vintage bike in a museum in Brisbane Australia for 40 years, perfect condition for $160AUD $110USD. BARGAIN. I added the side lights. I like originality and plan is to ride it to shows. I'm making a camper trailer now.

For those interested I swapped motorcycles on this trike. All Honda Fury's in Australia have ABS brakes. It is very difficult to add a 3rd wheel to ABS and you should get Transport approval prior to modifying it and approval might not be given as the law states "ABS cannot be removed nor modified". I could have spent thousands and still get knocked back. So I purchased a Honda VTX1800C with only 13,000 kms, like new. I've swapped the bikes over. It was really easy as the driveshaft was identical as was many other things, the horsepower changes from 57 to 95+ and the trike being 600kg plus 250kg for the camper trailer it was a wise decision. I'm not far off putting the windjammer back on after modifying it for the wider forks. In a few months it will be back to the engineer.

Love this pics you post of your project. Keep em coming. That is a significant jump on HP. You will notice that for sure!

Yes Kynan it will be.

Will keep it. The easiest way to match the orange (2011 fury colour matt metallic orange) it to get a few decals. The budget doesnt extend to repaint. The cost of the vtx wasnt expected. So maybe subtle flames ... and they'll cover a few scratches

Trike is finished with vtx1800c bike. Fury has abs brakes which was problematic due to Aussie rules. More power.

Well done Tony, that's a serious project. Knowing AU regs & its petty bureaucracies as well as I do, an enormous achievement to get to street registration!!! Congrats & enjoy!!

Can you post some pictures of your mounting system? I'm about to start on a VTX 1300T. Dimensions are probably not the same but it would at least give me a few ideas.

I used clamps like this onto the frame then welded up mounts with angle steel. Must be strong. There's a frame made up that runs from the round tank mounts all the way to under the headlight that has a steel plate for one bolt. When I undo that bolt and the 4 side bolts under, the whole fairing lifts off. So all nuts are welded to those plates. Trike is 2 hours away atm, sorry only pics I have
Tony.

most important thing is once electric connection is pulled out and bolts taken off the fairing just sits there waiting to be lifted off as its quite heavy. Then placed back on and remains there so you dont have to lift it much to bolt it on. I originally built the trike with the Fury and as you'd know that bike has a slim tank. All bikes on the 70's and most 80's had slim tanks. But it looks like you have a similar if not the same size tank as the 1800. If so then you might need to raise the front of the tank about 70mm because the fairing sides will hit the tank sides. So what I did was make up 2 mounts that the tank fits into with tube on a flat bar. The only issue with that is it pushes the tank back towards the seat and the seat will need to be modified. So also the large hole in the vetter fairing where the forks protude will need to be enlarged. This isnt easy and the hole required will cut into the section of the inside of the fairing. It means you have to seal those areas each side with fibreglass or tin. I used body filler and plates but told it wont hold for long. But your 1300 might not be as large a fork sweeping area as my 1800. Your stock handlebars might need to be raised a little to clear the tank. Then the Vetter can be mounted at a more acute angle than it often is. see pics. windscreen on a different angle. if I had the trike nearby I'd send more pics. cheers
