In my Navy days we would have claimed that anyone riding that was ate-up. Sure I have a Chief's Anchor on my 1100, and a US Navy licence plate frame on my 1200, but that is just too dang much!
 
It says Bob Jones on the seat. I wonder if it is the same Bob Jones that wrote XS Eleven Heaven? If so I can see that being one of his bikes.

Sorry I forgot about the site:-(Sometimes other things matter more...let me get into the book again and dig up some info.Jones was a character...only talked to him once but he was a true rider.
 
Both of those bikes pictured were two of Bob's personal. He had more fun building the Navy bike; adding all those planes and ships. Yes, a little gaudy; even for me ( and I love gaude). But he loved talking about his time in the Navy; and this was a way to make a nice memory. The seat had beautiful embroidery. It was recently sold to another fellow that I believe restored it to it's original look; I haven't seen it yet.

You show me someone who doesn't like talking about their time in the Navy and I will say it is because they got caught. :D
 
Hi Karla! Welcome to the forum. As far as the XS community goes, Bob sure made a mark in history. You almost can't type XS11 without something Bob Jones coming up. Hats off.

Also, thank you so much for the XS Eleven Heaven book, it is a great piece.
 
Too bad. The Navy bike was perfect when I GAVE it to Russ. I guess he let it go to rust; is the reason it had to be rebuildt? I would be interested in seeing the final outcome.
 
Starter clutch went out,a few other things got fixed while it was apart.A few updates on the lighting and some work on the paint.It is an old bike:-) Pics of bike above in previous post.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong. The fairing (personally painted and customized) on the Navy bike would be built for Yamaha in 1979, designed and produced by Pacifico Fairing Company, sold as an accessory. It was called the Silverbird II. There was a Silverbird I and it was sold as an accessory as well, for primarily for the 1977 XS750's, however used on the XS850's and Xs1100's too. The look of the Silverbird I looked very similar to the II however, the lines were more harsh.

I believe this to be a Silverbird I by Pacifico

I thought that Pacifico made the fairing for the Yamaha’s but all those paint lines disguised it a bit.
