Vindicator II

Craig, I bought a 1980 Honda CM400A Hondamatic for my wife,and it has a Vetter Vindicator on it. I was looking through your website to see what year it was made, for "shits and giggles". Based on the serial number, mine is the latest serial number, however the tag says "Vindicator II" is this a different animal?

You ask a good question, Kevin: I have been working on my book and have come with this same question. It is going to take a little more research but right now, I am not sure why I have no Vindicator (only) serial nameplates. Just Vindicator II like yours. I presume that your 39-566480 says only Vindicator on the fairing, right?

It is not a different animal. It was all the same fairing. Since I still have the monthly company meeting records, I will see if I can find out why I did this.

Yes Craig, the outside of the fairing has just "Vindicator" on it.

OK Here is what I have gleaned from my Notebooks and other ephemera: Because of the disasterous factory fire at my company the beginning of 1977, The Vindicator and all Lowers fell behind schedule. We began shipping Vindicators at the end of 1977 with serial numbers beginning with 31. It looks like beginning 1979, the Vindicator serial number began with 39. No significant changes. The word on the outside said only "Vindicator"
