Pivot axle removal

Greetings,
I'm stripping one of my Terraplanes to the frame for sandblasting and powder coat or paint. I'd like to remove the pivot axle from the cross tube. After removing the faceplate, I've noticed that the inboard end of the axle appears threaded. Has anyone removed this? Were there any oddities in its installation?

If you want to remove the swingarm from the cross tube it's held in place by a bolt from underneath by the seatbelts.
