    BMW by Vetter

I like it. If I could have my 9 inch round XV920 headlight with the Quicksilver fairing, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Hmmm, I've been doing some custom fiberglass bodywork lately - maybe I should try it.

    Terraplane #432

I clicked your screen name and "started a conversation'. I think that is the messaging you referred to(?)

    Terraplane #432

I'm not sure which one is correct. Does the fixture in your sidecar have 2 screw holes or 3? I suspect it is the bottom one. [edit] according to this pic...

    Support Bar Question

Yes. Hopefully those pics were taken by someone who has it assembled correctly. If the assembly is not correctly (correct bar on correct side, bar inside mounting tab on main frame vs outside the mounting tab, bolt head out/nut in vs nut out/bolt head in), the top body half will interfere...

    Terraplane #432

    Hippo hands fit/use

I mounted mine for the winter last night. First hippo hand ride of the year today. I had to cut an extra hole (sob!) for the reservoir of my 19mm master cylinder. For those who have not yet mounted a set, I found that aerodynamic forces cased the hippo hands to push back on both my brake and...

Oh, yes - and the vinyl is item #9: I had marine carpet in there and I could not get my dog's hair our of that dang carpet. Now it cleans up with a damp rag and/or swiffer. The floor mat is heavy rubber, which can be pulled out and hosed down.

A lever operates 2 push/pull rods. Each rod goes to a latch, one toward the front, and one toward the rear. At the end of each rod is a clevis with a steel bushing (free to rotate) across the open end of the clevis. A nylon bearing in the riveted bracket maintains alignment. Each clevis...

Getting close to the finish! (again...)

Yes. For a given caliper piston combined area, increasing master cylinder bore will do as you say. In my case, I increased caliper combined area so now master cylinder has too much travel. With the lever adjusted all the way out, it gets firm before hitting the grip. Adjusted all the way in...

Getting close to the finish! (again...)

Finally got the integrated brake setup bled. I'm going to have to go to a larger diameter master cylinder, but it stops the rig. The setup is: With this setup I have the car brake activated along woith the bike front brakes,or can use the car brake to assist in right turns. The CBR1100xx...

    Terraplane brake modification

Yes, but I'll spare you the details of my project in the middle of TBD's thread. I'll update my thread as I make progress (or not :) )

    Terraplane brake modification

I would think that running only the car brake would make the rig pull hard right when braking. I have a separate pedal for the sidecar and find using the car brake by itself is only useful for making sharp right turns. It works well for that! Early on, one of my welds broke in my 'leading...

For #2, the pics above show the seat I'm switching to (from a Honda cruiser, IIRC) and the one-off fiberglass cowl to go with it. The fiberglass is, ahem, stout. And directly connected to the frame by steel . OK, it's a pig. But who cares about weight with a sidecar rig? A 'luggage' rack is...

Getting close to the finish! (again...)

OK for #1, I want something I can put my back into, without concern that I'm going to break something. So, an old jack handle and a footpeg hinge later, I have my 'reverse', connected directly to the bike frame: When not in use, it folds flush to the side of the cowl:

Getting close to the finish! (again...)

So, over the past few (OK, several) months, I've had my rig in the shed making some adjustments to address the following: 1. The seat cowl had started to crack from pushing and pulling the rig by the rear grab bar. It was only connected to the bike by the plastic shell (an on-the-fly change by...

    Steering damper pictures

Looks good. I have a leading leg modification to reduce steering effort, and at low speeds the damper definitely is the dominant factor in steering effort. At anything above 1st gear (and with the exception of emergency full lock steering input at low speeds), it is not noticeable.

New to me. My second Terraplane.

    Nice rig!

    Steering damper pictures

Interesting. Mine is from a VW Thing, IIRC, and it is pretty stiff, even moving slow. Maybe stiffer than is really needed. I'll have to look at some pics of bug dampers to see if they'll mount up without major modifications.
