While high, it was just a deposit to insure they got their key back. Basically 'loaning' the key for free (like AutoZones tool loan program.)Many, many, I'm talking many years ago, a friend of mine lost the key to his second hand CL 450 Honda. I advised him to go to the local Honda shop and they could help him out. According to him, they had the key he could borrow to make a duplicate, with a $50.00 deposit. In them days and at our then paygrade, $50.00 was more than half a paycheck......
What we learned was, some bike dealers can be d**ks and there were a limited number of key model numbers available.......
Maybe, maybe not. I've read numerous posts where the dealer would refer to a locksmith or try to sell new locksets. YRMV!If you have the ignition lock number, a Honda dealer can cut a key.
