I recently picked up some parts from an old Vetter fairing and they included a pair of fairing side markers that were not just reflectors, but rather lights, so I am wondering if these were for just one specific model...

Looking at different pictures, it appears only the 2, 3 and Blue Max had these, but I am not sure which of these had lights and which, if any, only had reflectors. Included with the lights were a pair of left and right fabric tonneau covers for the fairing pockets, so that might help narrow down: I'm not sure which model began the lockable cover on the right side pocket.

Any ideas?

Brian,
The best person to ask would be Craig Vetter.
I have both a Windjammer II & III. The II has side reflectors, while the III I has side marker lights. The lockable right side cover started with the Windjammer SS.

Hi Brian, there is a category on the forum called "Ask Craig Vetter a Question". Feel free to use it. Craig peruses the forum and he is always active with answering questions.

Thanks Tom! I thought the lockable pocket cover started with the III.
I think the reason some of the Windjammer III's have locking right sides is that people have added them cause the soft covers for the right side are harder to find replacements for.

Tom that makes perfect sense. I guess I may have gotten lucky when I stumbled onto this deal: both pocket covers, side markers, and speaker covers for $15.00! The internet is a wonderful thing!

Especially Craigslist, I have gotten many nice items from there. Can you imagine how hard parts would be to find if there was no Ebay? And sights like this!

To be honest, I have never bought a thing from evil-bay, but that might have to change. Everything I have bought Vetter related has been found on forums or Craigslist.

I thought I would never do Ebay either, but there are a lot of Vetter parts out there that we may never find locally. It's a great way to keep Windjammers on the road and to update the stock ones with some very cool accessories.

I would give one thumbs up to the Evil-Bay! Love it, found and sold so many things there. Never once had an issue. Thanks for the evil exposure evil-bay! Give it a shot Brian!

Got Evil? :p

I agree. I just recently opened a PayPal account, so it isn't that I am anti-EBay, just that I never needed it before. But as Tom said, finding parts locally is a lot more difficult.

Regarding the side lights/reflectors, my WJ2 had lights. As I remember it, the WJ2 introduced three things: ABS instead of fiberglass, the edge molding that covered the joint between the inner and outer shells, and the side reflectors (with lights as an option). At the time I bought my WJ2 (summer, 1973), the WJ1 was still available, but I was a sucker for the additional lights.

In retrospect, the WJ1 was IMO a better fairing. A few years ago, I spotted a WJ1 in a motorcycle salvage yard, and I neglected to buy the fairing. That yard is now gone, and the fairing probably went into a landfill.

I have been watching eBay for a few years now and have never seen a Windjammer I. I have only seen a couple of Windjammer II's and many III's, IV's and V's. I have even been looking on Craigs list for bikes that may have them rather then just the fairing itself. Hopefully like Bob said, we don't have to stop looking due to then all being in landfills. Im optimistic that there is a hidden stash!

:)

The sad part XS is that most of the II's and III's that are out there are nothing more than a shell anymore. :(

I've been looking for a II for quite some time, with no luck.
