A will add the same update I provided on Goldwingfacts.com:
Little bit more info...only tried turning the center hub several degrees (as much as I could with a pair of vicegrips and what with the tight clearances under / in the center of the bike, maybe 20 degrees or so). I should have tried...
Thanks, Brian, motor is in the frame and the rear tire is on the ground (bike is on the sidestand); was a knuckle-buster to take the clutch cover off that way, but did it. I hope the center hub is supposed to turn relatively easy, but don't see how that would be right. Turning the bike over with...
The front brakes locked up on my wing in the fast lane of a 4 lane highway last week...had to get out of the middle of the road, and basically destroyed my clutch trying to overcome the brakes. At least I think that's what I did. Pretty bummed about what happened; it was all pretty exciting...
Well, took almost exactly a year, but I found a real nice used cover on Ebay....not NOS, but near perfect. Well worth the $31.50 plus shipping. Was the last (cosmetic) thing I wanted to upgrade on Dad's old bike.
Found this while "Googling" today...really like the look of the WJ5 on the bike, though I'm not sure the bags are indeed a Vetter product, even from '84? Gives me ideas, though...

Well, its been a little over a year now that I've had my Dad's old bike back; I replaced the fuel pump and starter, but otherwise it's been trouble free. And no less satisfying to ride (or even just look at!) than the day it arrived. Plus its a great story to tell people.
My Dad had a '65 Corvair coupe, was his first new car, and i just about can remember it (my parents sold it in the early 70s). Thing about Nader and the 'vair is despite what "conventional wisdom" says, he didn't really kill the car. It had a 10 model year run, not bad for such an...
Larry, the lights in the bags and trunk are taillights only; by the way, I did not connect them that way, my Dad did back in 1982! There is a lot of red light back there either way; sadly with some inattentive drivers, the light of a nuclear explosion might not be enough to keep them from rear...
My parents had one in the 70s when I was a kid, bought it used in 1975 at Reedman in Langhorne, PA. I've been looking for one off and one for over 20 years. Finding my Dad's old Wing last year kind inspired me to be more serious about my search. My family's Stag was stolen and destroyed by...
My '73 Stag arrived today. Its got a few issues, as all all cars will. Maybe not quite as nice as the seller implied, but overall I am happy with it. Before you say it looks great, just remember, they always look great...in the pictures Its not that bad, just some bubbling body work here and...
My daily driver (a misnomer since I typically take a bus to work) is a 2013 VW Beetle. My "fun" car is a 1965 Oldsmobile Jetstar I equipped with the seldom seen 4 speed transmission.
