Found this website, a lot of the popular bikes listed also have links to manuals at the bottom of the specification section e.g under Honda GL1000 there is a manual for "Bates Saddlebag mounting instructions", Honda GL1100 has 6 different radio/audio manuals, fairing mounting manual etc see...
I wonder if the Kawasaki version of the Windjammer had solid pocket liners, would seem like the sort of thing you might expect if you were buying a fully faired bike from Kawasaki for top dollar?
I currently have listed for sale on Ebay a trailer towing hitch for what I believe is a GL1000 it came with a "job lot" of parts, anyone ever fitted one? This one is made by a company in the UK called Freewheel UK Ltd and sells new for about £245 as a bare frame, they also do a stainless...
This is where mine came from, 2 trays then glued them together. Don't know if your local store would appreciate you taking one outside to check the tray size though!
Were the cloth liners a standard fitment for the Windjammer? I do not think I have ever seen any for sale. The shape of the pockets on most fairings have so many curves that it would be difficult to get a hard liner of any type to go much deeper without using some sort of moulding process which...
I believe the Pantera fairing company were based in Bournemouth in the UK but ceased trading in 2000. They made at least 3 different models including the one below. A friend of mine had the wide headlight version below on a Ducati 860 GT mid 80's.
No sure if the WJ has inserts for the fairing pockets but Rickman did not do them, got fed up with fishing stuff out from around the headlight so came up with this, just the tryout version at the moment but now I have the right shape I can maybe make some better ones.
The liners below are made...
Another British Pantera fairing called the Laser bit smaller version for a Honda CB400 Superdream, Vetter, Rickman and Pantera all seem to look pretty similar from around the 70's and 80's. Its a shame noboby still produces a quality touring fairing anywhere anymore.
I have not purchased this...
Did the film case have any purpose? I was really lucky with mine, bought it off Ebay here in the UK which is rare anyway and when it came it had never been fitted, still had the external wiring harness and spare key in a plastic bag inside the trunk. The guy said he had had it sprayed many years...
I have had to paint the bars on my side trunks, no funds to get them re-chromed at the moment. Not the best paint finish but too far gone to polish the chrome up. End caps were missing so bought some pipe ends off ebay and they finished them off ok. Actually look better fitted than the picture...
I now have a British made Pantera touring fairing from 70's 80's, came at no cost with some other bits, found a brochure picture for it as well. I also have the mounting frame which I believe is for a GL1000.
Now ask me why I wanted it or what I am going to use it for and there will be silence!!!
Thanks for that, for unique read "parts unobtainable", I would be interested if anyone finds a picture on the net of another twin headlight Rickman Polaris I have looked repeatedly but can only find the single round headlight version.
Going to have to build up some spares now, researched a bit...
This is the Rickman / Vetter mounting frame after removed for painting, not the best finish in the world but using spray can outside is not ideal this time of year.
Unfortunately I had to cut the top mounting rails off the Vetter WJ frame to get the Rickamn ones welded on so no pictures to compare.
Before I did this I did put the Trunk mount on top of the WJ frame and I am sure it had the same hole pitch and pattern, wider spread one end than the other etc...
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but the Vetter Trunk mounting plate I have seems to have the same 4 hole mounting pattern dimensions as the Vetter Windjammer fairing mount, if so may be useful to someone making up their own WJ mount?
