Stator, not the starter. There was an alternator kit called a poor boy that used a small car alternator attached to the front left of the Goldwing fairing attachment frame and driven from a pulley attached to the end of the crankshaft. This eliminated the need to pull the engine and replace the...
All I can say is Wow! That's one hard core Touring Bike and Biker right there. That proves you don't need an 1800cc car on two wheels to Bike around the world.
That Bike is setup for long distance touring. Note the new tires on the back. I wonder what kind of Bike that is? The pic is too dark to make out much detail.
I'd bet he dragged it out of a barn, got it running, only to discover the stator was shot, which was the reason it got parked in the barn. All the GL1100 and GL1200's would burn out the stators just after 50,000 miles. I'd still buy it except it's too far away from me. I could pull the engine...
I wired them into my trailer light 5 to 4 way turn, tail, and stop lights using a relay type adapter. The relays also provides isolation between the bikes wiring and the trailer and trunk lights. I'll post the diagram for the circuit from a post on a Honda Goldwing forum.
The trunk originally...
You need blocking diodes in the power leads going to the LED lights. Most LED lights do not come with them so the taillight circuit will back feed power into brake light circuit. Those LED lights use resistors to feed the same LEDs used for both tail and brake light functions. Filament type tail...
About a month ago I stopped at a "Moving" yard sale to have a look at the offerings. The lady selling out was moving to a assisted living facility. She had a lot of Harley Davidson stuff along with the usual stuff people have but no longer need when they go to one of those places. She had a...
One thing to keep in mind when switching to LED headlight bulbs is the way a stator and it's regulator work together.
The stator is producing full power output all the time except at idle if it's a standard (for motorcycle's) rotating magnet type. The regulator feeds power to everything using...
You did a great job mounting it on your Bike! I put a WJ IV on my 2006 Honda VLX-600. Most other Bikers have never seen one and ask me what kind of bike I'm riding because they've never seen one like it before. When I tell them the Fairing, Bags, and Trunk are from the 1970's they are astounded...
I acquired a 1982 Honda Rebel 250 rolling frame. I was going to build a Sidecar with the swing arm and rear tire but I can't bring myself to cut up the frame. It has no damage at all. It was a "lost title" bike but now that frame is so old a title is no longer required for it in my State. It's...
I fabricated an adapter for connecting the Bike frame to the sidecar frame. It's made of 2" X 4" X 1/4" heavy angle iron. I am using 6, 3/8" X 1.25" U-clamps to attach the adapter to the motorcycles frame. Two of the clamps are attached to the frame tubing where it starts curving upward so I...
I can fabricate a brake pedal and mount it on the sidecar frame so it's close beside the bikes brake pedal. I'll set it up so I can press both at the same time. Right now I'm designing a small frame that will attach to my bike where the sidecar lower frame mounts will attach. It can stay on the...
Picked up a 1982 Honda Rebel 250 that was missing it's engine an a few other parts I don't need. Paid $75 for it. I wanted one of the wheels, rear shocks, and swing arm to use for the wheel and suspension on the sidecar frame. I have all that stuff stripped off the frame so I could check those...
My son has a Kayak but I never really paid attention to it before I starting thinking about sidecars. I quickly realized the same process used to make those modern Kayaks could be used to make sidecar body's. They could be made very inexpensively, would be very durable, and very light weight...
I've been looking on-line for a sidecar. I'm having arthritis problems with my right ankle. Eventually that's going to lead to injuring it when my ankle rolls over at a stop and the bike falls over on me. I can't believe how every site that sells them goes about it. They are all misleading...
No! That slot is for adjusting the headlight beam side to side. What you do to adjust the light to center it (if required) is loosen the bolt just enough to allow the headlight to be moved back or fourth in that slot until the beam hot spot it straight ahead. Then you carefully remove the bulb...
You need a thin 7/16 open end wrench to hold the thin nut that locks the adjustment knob to the shaft. Once yoy remove the knob you can remove the two bolts that allow the shell to pivot up and down as the adjustment knob is turned. The entire shell is held by just those two bolts and the...
