My Windstar fairing came with the optional Vetter turn signals which happen to have running lights - which I rather like.
What I don't care for is two fold;
- the brass bulb sockets, which both happen to have stress cracks in them, which makes the bulbs sloppy/loose. The "tube" for the bulb is...
It's not bent...per say...she sits in a slight chevron pattern - front slightly inward, which matches the fairings slight mounting chevron area. Web mounting instructions indicate to "move the fairing back as far as is allowed via clearance"..but to move one chevron past the matching chevron...
The last week I've been on and off trying to get the optimal placement of my Windstar fairing on my suzi GS850G....which leads me to my question;
Given that the brackets are slightly angled in towards the front of the bike, how are we supposed to slide the fairing as far back as we can and...
In order;
-Black WS...origonal side stickers were gone and PO had added on pin stripping, but I removed it...probably will change the outside color to match the bike
-Cycle of choice is an '80 Suzuki GS850G...in Ford RedFire paint
...no pics worth a darn...I've got the cycle semi torn...
Got the fairing sitting on the mounted brackets today....need longer 5/16" x 2"w u bolts...around 2.5" to 3".
First thing I noted was that if the fairing was pulled far forward the front bolt holes lined up - but not the rear ones. They ran about middle of the bracket. I have to remember this...
Lol...me too. A longer speedo cable from a Suzi "L" would work....Tach....?
If you look at your fairing, you'd see how cool that'd be with the gauges in the speaker holes.
Add in the turn signals, discreetly on the sides....gear indicator in the void between the speakers...and the oem fuel...
"Office"...well, it can't do it's true job from there, now can it{lol}.
Myself, I like the WS...has twin lockable side areas...not huge, but not shabby....gives decent wind protection and is slimmer than the full fledged WJs....I owned an '84 FJ1100....the WS looks a tad bigger/better than that...
I just purchased a Vetter Windstar fairing...though Vetter didn't really make it....and just last week found a Windjammer mount for my frame....now to mate the two of them.
Just wondering if there's any one else out there who likes these smaller fairings too.
What ever happened to this mount?...worked...revised...?
I know it's nearly a year later, but inquiring Suzi GS owners want to know....
Thinking about a twin tube in seat pan set up and adapting a saddleman or some kind of backrest to my recovered oem seat ....
I've got the lil brother to that one- '80 GS850G....12k on her, so she's barely half broke in {according to another Dave I know, on a GS site;)}.
Wish she was the 1000G, but I haven't swung a leg over since '95....I'll ease back into it with this one, then maybe a 1000.
I bought an '80 Suzi GS 1000 mount on ebay. While it was complete it had no installation instructions. My mount is a different than normal type in that it has two side plates and two threaded tubes where the side plates mount to - these tubes both u bolt to the frame.
What I'm wondering about...
