That would be an X1 yamaha fairing. Fairly rare, that is my exact bike. I really want one of those fairing, i think it makes it look like a fighter jet
 
It is however missing the lowers and chin scoop for the full set
 
I believe they were sold on the bike. Ive only ever seen that exact fairing on the 650 maxims. However if you look closely at turbo secas and full tour package secas/maxims, there are many similarities
 
I stand corrected, the bike in that pic is an xs11. Judging by the dual front discs
 
Not an XS11, look at the side cover. The fairing looks much better with the lowers. I like the pic you posted.
 
Hmm must be a 750 max. I didnt think they had the bulging right side crankcase cover tho, and the starter/ alternator positioning in the pic of the left side is all wrong for an XJ
 
Well theres the answer. Just like the 400cc maxim, the 1100 is technically an XS not an XJ
 
I guess that would be what the XS11 became after they not longer called them the XS Eleven Special. Last year was 81 for the XS11 I think.
 
Yeah the terminology they used for their various models is confusing. I dont believe there were 650 or 750 XJ "specials" only in the 400 and 1100 XS models. But they still attached the maxim names to them as well, at least on some of the side covers. And i think the 1100 was only made for a few years ending in 81
 
Im really into early 80's yamahas right now haha especially the inline 4 models. Never been on an 1100 though theyre pretty rare around here
 
I just sold my 79 XS11 to my Dad. It was a super clean bike. I had it Vetterized, but he didn't want the Vetter stuff, so got to keep it all!

My dad is 67 now, however the perceived age is much younger. He is an iron horse and doesn't slow down for anything. A strong fellow he is.
