    Hello from Devon

I found the mounting instructions for the XS650. It includes the wire colors. The 850 is likely very similar.

    Hello from Devon

Yup, that is a Windjammer all right. Overall, it looks in pretty good shape. There are a few non-standard things... That switch on the inside is an add on, as is that hole on the right-side storage cover. That fifteen pin is NOT standard, so you are any good with wiring, you could go get a...

    Hello from Devon

I hadn't picked up on that. The original was nine. I wonder if he has a non-standard connector. Can you send us a picture of the connector?

    Hello from Devon

Craig used to have a replacement parts store on his website. I don't know if you are aware, but Craig had a really bad accident several years ago. He pretty much shut his store down after that. Here is a screenshot from an archive site showing what he used to offer. I have had some success...

    Hello from Devon

I did a little more checking. I found a bracket for a 1980 XS850 on eBay USA. I don't know anything about it or the seller other than finding it there. It looks like it might be brand new, never installed. I have no idea what shipping to the UK would cost...

    Hello from Devon

Welcome to the world of Vetter fairings! This forum is not especially active, but you will find those here to be very helpful. There should be an off-the-shelf bracket available for a 1980 XS850H, but they can be hard to find. The fairings are nearly all the same, but the brackets are all...

1980 KZ 1000 full Vetter kit

Sadly, Vetter never marked the brackets for which bike they fit. That information was only marked on the original outer box they were packaged in. The best place to find Vetter brackets is eBay. Search regularly for a bracket for your bike. If you are a decent fabricator, you can modify a...

Awesome hack. I've driven some sidecars, but have never owned one. On my wishlist for 'someday.'

I've accumulated a few too many Vetter fairings...

You can actually still get some original parts directly from Craig. Technically, he has shut down his store, but if you email him directly you can likely still get some edging, windshield foam, some badging, etc. He also still has lots of instructions and tips on this website. As for the big...

I've accumulated a few too many Vetter fairings...

Sadly, Windjammers have fallen out of fashion. It can be hard to give them away. One of the biggest problems is that they are expensive to ship. The last one I got I drove three hours to pick it up before someone put it in a dumpster. It is still sitting unused under my back deck. It is...

    Vetter Cover Story

In case you didn't see, Craig has again made the cover of American Motorcyclist, the December 2025 edition.

    Lowers....

Those rubber well nuts can often be found at your local hardware store. Be careful with them. People tend to significantly over-tighten them. Doing so can easily pull out the brass inserts in them. You want to tighten them just until they are firm and the lowers aren't sloppy.

    Lowers....

Nice job. I've never worked with a WJ5, but I have found that it is really easy to cut the lowers to fit around almost any bike.
