So.....
I have been thinking about straight piping.
I have a 78 Honda CB400a.

I'm thinking about just removing the mufflers. Leaving the cross pipes alone.
Also running tubing all the way to the back and adding fishtail tips?

Thoughts?
I know the pros and cons. But I still want to know your thoughts.

Don't do anything that cannot be un-done. I just had straight headers on my 81 wing and was considering something a little louder. It didn't take long for me to realize I liked the stock sound better. Longer pipes would have helped I am sure, but to me, it just didn't sound right.

If you plan to ride with no muffler, re-jetting the carbs will be a must. Without re-jetting, the decreased back pressure will lean out your mixture and lead to overheating and preignition during acceleration leading to a burnt piston if it goes on for long.
I really liked my stock exhaust for many years but one day the right muffler separated from the collector. I had the unit wielded with the plan of having both rechromed. No chrome shop will not rechrome exhaust systems, the gunk inside is detrimental the chemicals to remove the old chrome and would be a costly process for them.
Anyway, I installed a Mac 4/2 system to get back on the road. Much louder than the stock in that I must wear ear-plugs to ride or my ears will ring for days after.
Way, way, way back in my mis-spent youth, I had a Norton 500 single that had a striate pipe when I got it. To increase the coolness of that blasting thumper, I added a 4 inch chrome megaphone. Yes, I was real popular with the folks who lived along my route to and from school.
I took my future wife for her first motorcycle ride on that bike. Made it a half mile before she started jabbing me in the ribs. I stopped and shut the bike down to see what was the problem. Problem was, she got off and walked home.

I use these for the GPS and MP3. They work great for me. I like the mushroom type plug best.

Good stuff Jammer! I never knew there was something like that on the market. Earbuds get a bit uncomfortable after some time, but I have no problems with earplugs.

To thread them suckers into my ears requires some type of lube. I have found ear wax remover drops work well, I unscrew the top and put the plug in the cap and that deposits just the right amount to get the job done.
Expect the first few times for your ears to be a bit sore but with frequent use the sensation for me goes away.
