Vetter mount on a CB1100

If I reconfigured the mount to bolt on the back side of the down tubes would that be strong enough to be a viable way to mount it? I don't think it would matter, but could be wrong.
The front side of the down tubes has the oil cooler in the way. I know carguy1959 moved his oil cooler to the outside of the mount. I would just as soon not move it.

Since most of these mounts are only held on by hose clamps, I wouldn't see why not. If necessary, could you also run a support down below the cooler for added strength?

I thought it would be okay. Also doing it that way it would have to made in at least two pieces. I bought a mount from Ebay 1976 GL1000 to get some ideas.

Hello Husky, after further investigation, I think the mount I used on my 14 CB1100 is from a mid late 70's CB750. I found some on eBay that look almost exactly like mine. I have put a better fairing on my bike and found some lowers that had the same pattern. Here is a recent picture.

Now that new fairing makes your bike look fantastic.
I had ordered a goldwing fairing mount off Ebay, the dufface sent one for either a Suzuki or a Kawasaki.
I have one coming for a 79 750 now.
I know you moved your oil cooler did you do any modification to the frame? I was thinking of moving the the upper mount to the back side of the down tubes to keep from altering the frame. What do you think?

Just curious, are you a member on the CB1100 forum? Basically I measured everything (about 20 times). Then I removed head light, turn signals, oil cooler from motor. Than I worked on the bracket until it fit, flairing out the mounts, I had to trim the one that is long on top. I tried to make sure I had it as high on the frame as possible. Never did I cut or alter the bikes frame. Once I had the bracket mounted I turned the fork to full tilt each way. Then trimmed the braket until the forks didn't hit. When you get that far you will know what I am talking about. After that, I put the oil cooler back on and mounted to the bracket. Easiest thing to do for me. Then I mounted the fairing, had to trim the bottom a bit, no shimming needed. I used the factory head light from the 14 and made it fit in the factory housing of the fairing.

There is also about 10 other things I had to do, measure both sides of the bracket and make sure it is even in the back and front on both sides.

Yes Carguy I am a member of the CB1100 forum. I use the same username on all the forums that I am a member.
Thank you for the detail on what you did to make the mount fit, I have a mental picture on what you did.
Larry those pictures are literally worth a thousand words. I believe I have enough ammo to make this work.
This is the fairing that will go on it'
